CORE INSTITUTE SPECIALTY HOSPITAL:

  • AzAS has the primary contract for coverage. 3rd party specialty groups cover cardiothoracic and structural heart cases.

ANESTHESIOLOGY SERVICE TIMES AND STAFFING MODELS:

All members of the team work collaboratively for positive surgical outcomes, with a genuine emphasis on autonomy, professionalism, respect, and teamwork.

BUMCP:

  • AzAS contracts for services between 7am and 5pm (6 sites between EP (3 sites), IR, Cath Lab (2 sites), and Endoscopy (1 site) – with some changes on a daily basis due to volume.

  • Evening services will be covered by physicians from 5 to 9pm (2 rooms from 5 to 7pm and 1 available room, until cases are done, until 9pm, rooms out on a rotating basis).

  • Physician members can expect to have a mix of direct services and working with CRNAs to complete cases.

  • We currently cover no weekends, call or holidays. If this were to be added to our contract, we would cover it with our team based on an equitable rotation.

  • TEFRA rules are used at this facility and documentation should reflect those requirements.

AHH and CISH:

  • Physicians should expect to provide direct anesthesiology services or “float” to facilitate surgical flow for the day, working with perioperative nursing staff, CRNAs, surgeons, etc.

  • For AHH, highly experienced CRNAs take call.

  • For CISH, MD either covers a room or float and is present until the last patient is discharged from PACU.

AHH CALL:

  • On volunteer basis ($350 for M-Th and $500 for Friday/Saturday/Sunday); starts at 5:30pm.

Crossover between facilities:

  • Depending on the surgical schedule, there may be times that physicians are required to cover between the three sites.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ideal candidates have at least 1-2 years of generalist experience, however newer physicians are welcome to apply as well. Experience with interventional radiology, vascular, advanced EP cases is a plus.

  • TEE Placement/manipulation is not required but general familiarity is helpful for cases such as mitral clips and TAVRs (a 2nd Banner cardiologist in addition to the proceduralist does TEE interpretation during cases as needed).

  • Competence with PNBS (ISB, SCB Adductor, Femoral, etc) is not required but beneficial.

  • Candidates must either be board-certified or board eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION:

Physicians who choose to be contracted/scheduled on a 26-week basis (2 weeks on/2 weeks off), will have the ability to add or exchange days/weeks with other members as well as pick up additional days for additional compensation as desired. This can be adjusted for individual needs.

Shifts will be rotated equitably between members, with shifts including 7a-5p, 7a-7p, 7a – 1p, and 1p-9p.

An example schedule would look like:

  • M: 7a - 7p

  • Tu: 7a - 5p

  • Wed: 7a - 1p

  • Th: 7a - 7p

  • Fri 1p - 9p

Note that not all shifts require our presence the entire time.

Compensation for FT members: All services before 5pm are compensated at $265/hour, and all services after 5pm and on weekends are compensated at $285/hour.

Compensation for PRN members: $250/hour during the week, $275/hour after 5pm and weekends.

Members who work a standard 2,000 hours per year will be compensated at $530,000 annually. Members working 2 on 2 off will generate approximately $350,000 annually as they provide approximately 50 hours of service per week.

SHAREHOLDER PROGRAM:

AzAS’s ownership program creates a significant and unique advantage compared with other anesthesiology groups.

Every FT member of AzAS is granted equity within the company, making their entity an owner in AzAS, and allowing them specific ownership benefits. This allows access to group health insurance through United Healthcare, maintaining tax advantageous of a 1099 arrangement, and participation in any liquidity event in the future on a prorata basis. Additionally, profit sharing is done through the shareholder program, which usually results in a few extra thousand dollars each year.

MALPRACTICE INSURANCE:

Physician members are responsible for procuring their own malpractice insurance.
